This week the Jacksboro Fire Department responded to eighteen (18) calls for service. Six (6) calls were in the City and twelve (12) were in the County. Nine (9) were EMS calls, one (1) motor vehicle accident, two (2) grass fires, one (1) motor vehicle fire, one (1) public assistance call, one (1) environmental call, one (1) smoke investigation call, and two (2) calls were dispatched then canceled in route. They were also heavily involved in the homecoming parade last Friday, the Sesquicentennial Event, and the Annual Fly-In at the airport. The Fire Department has definitely had a busy week. Thank you to all the VOLUNTEERS that assisted with all the events.
The Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer completed ten (10) building inspections this week. He also continued to follow-up on several property abatements that we are currently working on.
The Animal Shelter continues to remain full with both dogs and cats. Michael Booher, the Animal Control Officer also removed a bat from the Court House this week. The Cat Habitat, donated by the Friends of the Shelter, was delivered and installed this week. Once we have electricity and water connected to the building we will begin transitioning all the cats to this facility. We invite anyone that is interested in the Shelter to take a tour or volunteer with the Friends of the Shelter. We also have a link with pictures of all the animals that are currently available for adoption. If anyone is interested in adoption, please contact City Hall at 940-567-6321:
The Distribution and Collection responded to thirty-five (35) calls for service. They also spent a great deal of time assisting Parks and Recreation cleaning up after the busy weekend.
The Street Department installed all the ONE WAY and NO PARKING signs on N. 6th and N. 4th. The Police Department will be monitoring these streets and reminding people of the changes. Additionally, the Street Department paved a portion of N. 5th Street and made some repairs to West College.
Judge Umphress, Chief Jennings and I attended a meeting with the Fort Worth District Engineer and the Decatur Area Engineer with TXDOT. The Area Engineer is new, and we wanted to provide him and the District Engineer some feedback on issues facing Jack County and the City of Jacksboro.
We began our new fiscal year October 1st, so Hanna has been busy trying to close the previous fiscal year and open the new one.
Parks and Recreation spent the week mowing city lots and drainage ditches, as well as around the lakes and the soccer field. They also trimmed trees at the Animal Shelter to make room for the Cat Habitat, and sprayed herbicide at City Hall, the Fire Station, the Police Station and the gun range.

Our Employee Spotlight of the Week is Zach Searcy. Zach is one of our three full-time firefighters and is heavily involved in not just the Fire Department but always assists other departments as well. He was very involved this past weekend with all the events, and works hard to maintain the Fire Department building as well as all our equipment.
Our next City Council meeting is October 27th at 5:30 PM.
Respectfully,
