Provides senior level supervision and administration of the police department; plans, supervises, and coordinates police operations; serves as commander of the department in the absence of the Chief of Police, and performs related work as required. Inspection of work, equipment and reports; supervise and discipline subordinates of the department; supervise and coordinate all training programs within the department. Investigation of any and all complaints concerning personnel of the department; assist in the organizing and presentation of court cases as required by the Police Chief; assist and provide general supervision of all criminal investigations of the department and supervises crime scene processing at major incidents; assist the Police Chief in drafting of orders, rules, regulations and operating procedures and make recommendations to Police Chief as to improvements in enforcement, training or other operations of the police department and regarding activities of uniform patrol investigation and court activity. Must be able to complete all job functions of police officer position and must be able to maintain physical requirements of Police Officer position. Other duties and patrol work as required. Practice sound customer service and public relations skills. Possess moderate computer skills, and is able to adequately review police reports.
